Brightening care in spring and summer could be wasted?! About “rebound pigmentation”
Rebound pigmentation refers to a relapse in melanin production inside the skin. The generation of melanin is suppressed with continuous brightening care in spring and summer but may rebound when the regimen is discontinued in autumn and winter.
Moreover, there is one more factor in the running environment in colder seasons that may even aggravate dark spots – skin dryness. In autumn and winter, our skin is exposed to the dry outer air, and skin dryness becomes one of the key concerns of the season. Shiseido has looked into the reasons why dark spots get more evident in autumn and winter and found that it’s not only due to UV exposure; irritation caused by dryness is another aggravating factor that increases dark spots.

Even with the sun getting weaker, skin brightening care should be ongoing, or you risk seeing your spots back! 1) Make moisturizing a habit, both from inside and outside!
In autumn and winter, as both air temperature and humidity drop, your skin gets drier and drier. In order to prevent the aggravation of dark spots due to dryness, make sure to moisturize your skin properly before you go for a run. Apply a moisturizing lotion and emulsion before you head out, and add a sheet mask soaked in lotion and a cream to your night regimen after a run, in order to protect your skin from the dryness of autumn and winter air. And of course, remember to drink water at short intervals to prevent dryness from within.
2) Sun care is a must not only while running, but any time you go out
Don’t be fooled into thinking that UV rays are harmless as soon as summer is gone! From autumn to winter, the sun is lower in the horizon, meaning it shines right all over your face. Therefore, skipping sun care just because the light is weaker is a no-no. When you run outside, apply sunscreen properly at all times.
3) Continue, not quit brightening care in autumn and winter!
