For some reason, we care a lot about the contents of other people’s bags and pouches. Particularly, every girl wants to take a peep at what beautiful women carry around, don’t you? This time we approached three members of Shiseido Running Club – Risa Takenaka, Chihiro Sunaga, and Arisa Yamamoto – who run hard day in, day out, exposing their skin to the harsh effects of sweat, sebum and UV radiation. Always beautiful despite long years of training, the girls share their secrets to beauty, as well as the contents of their vanity bags we have all yearned to see!

Must-haves! Treasure items for beautiful skin

UV radiation is a tough enemy for runners who spend a lot of time outdoors. Although sunscreen is a must before a training session or a race, it’s difficult to shield the skin from UV rays completely. That’s why the girls say UV care has to go hand in hand with moisturizing and skin whitening to prevent dark spots and dullness. Speaking of which, all the three agree that Melanofocus 3D by HAKU and ULTIMUNE work wonders. Moreover, on days when UV rays are especially harsh, they pamper the skin with concentrated treatment, such as Melanoshield mask by HAKU.

No more sun-damaged dry hair! Effective hair care even for busy girls

Hair gets damaged by UV radiation, too, so hair treatment is indispensable. The girls recommend wrapping hair with hot towels to moisturize it or spreading hair treatment and leaving it on for a better effect while taking a hip bath. By the way, Ms. Takenaka uses a contrast shower (alternating between warm and cold water in shower) to alleviate fatigue and pampers her hair meanwhile. She says a contrast shower “quickens recovery as it improves blood circulation due to alternated effect of hot and cold temperatures.”

Races and training involve a lot of sweating, so you’d think they go makeup-less, but surprisingly, all the three make up properly. Yet you don’t want your makeup running as you do, so the girls have tricks of their own, like using water-proof products or makeup in lighter colors.

Ms. Tanaka pays special attention to lip makeup. ”I use different lipsticks for different purposes: PRIOR for training and BENEFIQUE at other times. I was once told by a beauty consultant that PRIOR lipstick provides sheer tint as well as sunblock, and I’ve been using it since. It gives just enough color to brighten up my complexion.”

Ms. Sunaga says she always wears makeup, even on the run. Her vanity bag is full of favorites, such as &FACE Eyebrow Foundation and others. One thing she cannot do without is lip moisturizing: “CHIFFONETTE, THERAPIND, MAQUILLAGE, MOILIP.. I always carry around at least two of these,” she says.

Eyelash serum and other favorite products come out of Ms. Yamamoto’s stylish black pouch. But one item she always takes with her is ANESSA sunscreen. ”I use gold or silver ANESSA emulsion when training, and opt for sunscreen essence for just going out. The emulsion type stays put even with sweat, I like it that it doesn’t get sticky,” she shares.

Runner girls who polish their beauty through proper skincare and makeup. They say that regular running makes them beautiful and healthy also from within: “Lots of sweating has improved my metabolism”, “I’ve become more conscious of what I eat; sticking to nutritious food that’s good for the body has made me healthier”, “Running makes me more positive, so I’m ready for the challenges of the day.” There’s probably a lot more in running for health-conscious beauties like these three!
